HIGH SCORES FOR ŠAPAT WINES ON THE PRESTIGIOUS JANCIS ROBINSON WEBSITE
Atila Frankovka poised for great success
Wines from Šapat Wine Atelier continue to receive high scores from some of the world’s most renowned critics. Following the excellent ratings awarded by James Suckling, our wines have also attracted the attention of one of the most respected global wine platforms, JancisRobinson.com, where they were highly rated by wine critic Oliver Coleman.
The highest-rated wine is Atila Frankovka 2023, which received an impressive 17++ out of a maximum of 20 points. According to Coleman, the wine displays pronounced floral aromas of peony and violet, alongside a deep and pure fruit character of blackberry and elderberry. On the palate, it offers richness and juiciness combined with remarkable freshness, while a subtle earthy note adds further complexity. It has a long finish and leaves a strong impression — a wine, as he notes, that certainly deserves attention. This label will be available from autumn 2026.
Atila Chardonnay 2023 and Atila Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 follow with scores of 17+.
For the Chardonnay, Coleman highlights opulent aromas of yellow fruit such as apple and melon, accompanied by pronounced minerality. Although aged in new oak barrels, the fruit remains dominant, while the texture combines fullness and elegance with freshness.
The Cabernet Sauvignon, as he describes it, is defined by its layered character — spicy and mineral notes, along with dark fruit such as blackberry and blackcurrant, create a complex profile. He also emphasizes its excellent concentration, fine tannins, and long, persistent finish.
A score of 16.5+ was awarded to Cuvée 2022, a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. According to Coleman, the wine displays intense aromas of plum, blackberry, and cherry, with a pronounced oak influence, while on the palate it offers a full, rounded style with refreshing structure and well-balanced tannins.
Chardonnay 2023 and Terol 2022 received 16.5 points.
Coleman describes the Chardonnay as featuring elegant aromas of citrus and pear, with subtle minerality and a refined lees influence, while on the palate it combines rich texture with freshness.
For Terol, he highlights an intriguing combination of herbal and spicy notes with ripe fruit, supported by vibrant acidity and dry, “Italian-style” tannins, making it a particularly distinctive wine.
A score of 16 points was awarded to Trofej 2023 and Nera 2022.
Trofej, as noted, is characterized by precise aromas of lemon and pear, fine bubbles, and a refreshing, slightly saline finish.
