Awards for Šapat Wines at the Balkans International Wine Competition
Atila Plavi wins Double Gold and 94 points
Atila Plavi Frankovka 2024 was awarded 94 points and a Double Gold Medal at the Balkans International Wine Competition (BIWC), held on the island of Hvar, Croatia, from 27 to 29 May 2026.
This achievement represents a major success and a significant international endorsement of quality for Frankovka, one of the newest labels from Šapat Wine Atelier, which has attracted the attention of wine critics since its launch.
Recognition continues for other wines from Šapat Wine Atelier as well. Our Cuvee 2023 received a Gold Medal and 90 points, while Atila Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 and Atila Sauvignon Blanc 2024 were each awarded one point fewer and also received Gold Medals.
Bianca received 85 points and Chardonnay 87 points, earning Silver Medals.
The Balkans International Wine Competition is open to wine producers from the Balkans, Central and Eastern Europe, the Black Sea region, as well as producers from all other wine regions around the world. This year’s competition marked the 15th edition of BIWC and is one of the few wine competitions in Europe organized according to the Australian Wine Show judging model.
This judging system is considered highly precise and transparent, as it enables more detailed analysis and more accurate ranking of wines compared to traditional European judging systems.
Šapat Wine Atelier also achieved notable success at last year’s competition, which was held on the Greek island of Paros. An international panel of experts awarded Atila Chardonnay 2023 first place in the white wine category.
